National Institute of Design
The National Institute of Design (NID), is a main centre of excellence for design knowledge in India. NIDs 400 or so undergraduate and postgraduate students come from all over the country, are generally very bright, and usually end up in influential positions in industry and the private sector. NID has a wide range of connections with government and industry: for example in December 2001 it staged the first India Design Summit in partnership with the Confederation of Indian industry. NID is actively involved in projects and networks involving the Institutes of Technology in Bombay, Delhi and Guwahati. Doors East also has excellent connections with the nationwide Fashion Institutes of Technology (NIFT); the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT).
